Screening of Mise Éire

As part of the continuing commemoration of the events of 1916, Westside Resource Centre will host a special screening of the classic documentary created by George Morrison and featuring the music of Seán Ó Riada. 'Mise Éire' charts the lead-up to and the aftermath of the 1916 Rising.

The period covered in the film (1896-1918) was one of the most momentous in recent Irish history. In 'Mise Éire', history can be seen precisely as it happened before the eyes of newsreel cameramen who were present at critical developments.

'Mise Éire' will be screened in Westside Resource Centre on Tuesday 19th April. This coincides with the centenary of the events surrounding the aborted landing of German weapons on Bannagh Strand in Co. Kerry.

Places are limited, so make sure to contact the resource centre on 091-528325 or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. to reserve your seat.

International Women's Day Celebration Success

Westside Resource Centre celebrated International Women’s Day on Tuesday 8 March 2016. The event was well attended and a very enjoyable afternoon began with afternoon tea where funds were raised for Gorta – Self Help Africa. This international charity is based in the Resource Centre and works with rural communities to help them improve their livelihoods. Development Manager and Fundraiser Ronan Scully gave a very interesting talk on “Women in International Development”.

Newly elected TDs Catherine Connolly and Hildegarde Naughton attended the event and spoke briefly on the subject of equality for women. The event was rounded off with a wonderful musical recital from Galway Early Music, a group who promote the performance of medieval, renaissance and baroque music in Galway. The afternoon was a great success and was enjoyed by all.
